‘Through the ages there has been a secret order of poets, artists and mystics, who have kept the sacred knowledge alive in this city. But they were also being tortured and persecuted. This has been the battle that has been going on in Ghent. One honouring the feminine, the muse, the art, women; the other honouring power, the masculine force of conquering and strength. It is in the melting of these two that a new gate can open: it is the connection between male power and feminine wisdom. In former times these two forces were opposing each other and now they ask for a union, a re-union, a sacred marriage, so both can support each other. It is through opening this gate, through the outer and the inner world, that this marriage can be fulfilled.’
